In 1981, Ken and Peggie Dorrance opened "The Video Station", Alameda's first video store. Within a year The Video Station became the biggest video store on the West Coast. Video Station was voted "Best Independent Video Store in the Country" and voted "Best Video Store in Alameda for 5 years straight until they retired the category. Ken and Peggie ran and owned the Video Station for over 29 years. During that time they opened Papa Murphy's Pizza inside the Video Station. Papa Murphy's makes the best pizza in America according to Consumer Reports and Zagat. In 2010 we decided it was time to close down the Video Station and explore new opportunities. In 2011, Ken and Peggie opened their own restaurant called Island City Cafe to rave reviews.
Ken and Peggie look forward to serving Alameda the best in sandwiches, hot dogs, soups and salads.
